The band was founded in autumn 1987 in Leipzig. Before they had split, in June 1989, they had released four tapes. In those days there were no independent recordlabels in the GDR, and AMIGA, the only existing major-poplabel was controled by the government. Many of independent and underground musicians recorded their own songs in homestudios or rehearsal-sessions. In fact: The tape was the record of the underground-music-scene in East Germany. Also the covers were hand-made.

The Real Deal released their first tape in December 1987 - a 4-track-collection. But it sounded terrible, because, the tape recorder were out of order. In another session in February 1988 they recorded most of the early songs again and additional a couple of new ideas. By the way: They worked without multitracking, because such equipment was not available for independent bands in the GDR. They used a 6-channel-mono-mixer Vermona Regent 1060 (Made in GDR!), a couple a Mics and a Normal-Tape-Deck-Recorder (JVC Cassete Deck KD-D2). And that’s all. No overdubs. All the recordings are live-recordings from the rehearsal. A little noisy. And sometimes overdrived. Not perfect. But powerful. Full of life.

Now, these debut-tape is available on streaming platforms. Remastered and careful restored from the original analog chromdioxid-BASF-tape. It’s a little taste of history, from a time so far away – enjoy it!
